About Applying to the MU Transition to Teaching Program

Per the Indiana Department of Education, Secondary Education Transition to Teaching candidates must meet one of the following criteria to enroll:

1.) Baccalaureate degree from an accredited postsecondary education institution in the subject area that the individual intends to teach with a GPA of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale;

2.) Graduate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the subject area or related field in which the person wants to teach;

3.) Both a baccalaureate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution in the subject area that the individual intends to teach with a GPA of at least 2.50 AND five (5) years of professional experience; or

4.) Both a baccalaureate degree from an accredited postsecondary educational institution and proof of passing state-approved content area examination(s) in the subject area.

If an applicant has lower than a 2.5 GPA, they must pass the content licensure exam in the are of their degree and desired license prior to being admitted to the T2T program.

Academic Information

The MU Transition to Teaching program offers two formats: Accelerated and Traditional.

The Accelerated Program begins in the summer with four courses. It is intended for those who have been hired to teach with an Indiana three-year Transition to Teaching permit. The Traditional Program begins in the fall semester and takes 18 months to complete.
